The MARC Module
Can be used for two functions.
1. As an alternative to direct data entry or AutoFill you can add book data using the Title or Author or ISBN or other book information.
Or
2. It can be used load MARC records from Book Distributors as they often provide a MARC file alone with the order.

You can ignore this if you are loading data from a Publisher's MARC file. If you are using it to add new data. Click on the link to go to the download site and follow the steps outlined further below to add items by Title or ISBN or by Author or other fields. |

Type of MARC |
|
|
Select the Type of MARC from the pulldown. Publishers may send MARC data along with the books you have purchased. Common formats include MARC 21 and US MARC. The Library of Congress has a new format but other libraries in the Gateway use the old format. |

Barcode |
|
|
The system will automatically assign a barcode using the next available value unless you enter one. |
|
Transfer |
|
|
Click Transfer to translate the data. If you are satisfied with the Translation click Add to Database. |
If you are loading data from the Library of Congress and have clicked the Link.
Click Advanced Search.

Enter a search value, in the example we are using "Burning Chrome"

Click the MARC Tags link.

Right-click and copy the MARC Tags result.

Right-click and paste into the main screen in the MARC screen.

Select Library Congress New Format |
|
|
The Library of Congress recently changed it's format please select "New Format". The other library formats listed in the Gateway however user the old format. |

Click Transfer |
|
|
After clicking Transfer the data will convert and you will be prompted to add the data to the database. |

Click on Add to Database
